RESALE STORE MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Reports To:               Executive Director
Supervises:               Sales Associates, Volunteers, Community Service Workers
Classification:           Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt- Yearly Salary $40,000
                                    Comprehensive benefit package
 
 
Position Summary
The Resale Store Manager is a key member of the KCM management team and is responsible for managing all retail resources (staff, volunteers, assets, and inventory) to deliver on the Annual Resale Plan.  The scope of responsibilities includes developing and implementing continuous improvements in retail service quality, reporting on key operational metrics and financial/budget performance, and assuring compliance with all company policies and procedures. 
  1. Essential Duties
    1. Oversee the day to day operations of the Resale Store.
    2. Collaborate with the Administrative Team and Operations Committee.
    3. Learn and be able to train staff on Point of Sale system.
    4. Oversee the processing of donated items. Processing includes: sorting, tagging, and display of items.
    5. Maintain and increase knowledge of resale, thrift and retail trends through readings (email lists, publications), participation in webinars, staff meetings, and periodic offsite training.
    6. Meet periodically with other thrift shop managers for networking.
    7. Provide leadership to staff and volunteers.
    8. Coordinate and conduct the End of Year Inventory.
  2. Agency Management
    1. Engage in the implementation of the Strategic Plan and Annual Goals.
    2. Assist with development of new resale store policies and procedures, and coordinate updates to the Resale Store/Donation Center Operational Manual.
    3. Adhere to all organization policies and procedures.
    4. Attend staff meetings, committee meetings, and development workshops.
    5. Oversee maintenance problems, lease compliance, and fire code restrictions for the Resale Store and Donation Center.
    6. Submit list of needed office supplies to the Administrative Assistant according to distributed schedule.
  3. Store Management
    1. Evaluate store and staffing needs, as well as operational trends, implementing needed changes with approval of Executive Director.
    2. Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator for recruitment, retention and training of Resale Store volunteers.
    3. Coordinate the hiring, supervision, evaluation and professional development and continued education of Resale Store staff. Supervision to include regular and ongoing monitoring of work productivity and habits, performance, and timely reporting to HR of performance excellence or disciplinary issues.
    4. Conduct staff meetings to evaluate goal outcomes and customer service delivery; resolve conflicts and strengthen work relationships by engaging staff in team building activities.
    5. Reinforce policies and procedures with staff and volunteers.
    6. Conduct 90-day and/or yearly performance evaluations for sales associates and submit to Executive Director.
    7. Ensure staff is fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their job assignments.
    8. Promote excellence in the customer service for all visitors to the resale store through staff training and stakeholder surveys. 
    9. Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards.
  1. Oversee special sales events based on inventory and trends.
  2. Analyze sales and current inventory in order to provide projections and recommendations to retain customers and increase sales.
  3. Oversee display of merchandise inside the store to enhance the appearance and appeal of the store.
  4. Collaborate with Administrative Staff to promote items in Social Media.
  5. Engage in Community Outreach.
Financial Management
  1. Set daily sales plan, goals and priorities and delegate plan of action. Ensure the Resale Store is in compliance with sales goals.
  2. Responsible to the Director of Finance for all collection of financial and statistical reporting.
  3. Oversee resale store bank deposits and cash sales balancing; to work in conjunction with the Director of Finance.
  4. Use organization resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
  5. Adhere to financial policies
  6. Prepare and submit weekly and monthly required KCM reports to the Director of Finance.
  7. Prepare weekly time sheets and submit to the Director of Finance according to the distributed time schedule.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
 
Skills, Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
  • Experience in retail management (3+years) and supervision of staff; experience overseeing volunteers is a plus.
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal, writing and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Windows, database programs, Microsoft Office; experience with Point of Sale system is a plus.
  • Knowledge of budget management and projections.
  • Ability to analyze retail trends.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule with availability to work weekends and some holidays.
