Member Spotlight: Hadi (Andrew) Nurcahya, The Dryer

A Visionary Reviving History

Hadi (Andrew) Nurcahya, owner of The Dryer, is a hands-on real-estate developer with a passion for creating special destinations. His latest project, The Dryer, is a testament to his vision and commitment to the Katy community.

From Abandoned to Alive

In February 2021, Andrew purchased the abandoned JV Cardiff & Sons rice dryer with the ambitious goal of transforming it into a family entertainment venue. This iconic structure, located just 2000 feet from I-10, is the tallest building in Katy and a visible landmark from Old Katy. Andrew's vision for The Dryer is not just about entertainment; it's about preserving history and creating a unique destination.

Overcoming Challenges, Building Community

Andrew's journey with The Dryer has been filled with challenges, particularly navigating the complexities of working with the City of Katy's building department. However, his persistence and the unwavering support of the community have kept the project moving forward.

The Dryer opened its doors in June 2024 with its first tenant, Katy Beer Garden. This is just the first phase of Andrew's plan. He is already working on the next phase, "The Train Yard," which promises to bring even more excitement to this unique venue.

A Chamber Champion

Andrew credits the Katy Chamber of Commerce for playing a vital role in the success of The Dryer. The Chamber helped introduce him to local leaders and provided valuable advice throughout the project. He actively engages with the community by attending Chamber events and partnering with the Katy Heritage Society.

Unique Attractions and Unwavering Commitment

The Dryer sets itself apart with its unique offerings, including a model train, a rideable train, and the historic rice dryer itself. Andrew's commitment to excellent customer service and his passion for exceeding expectations are evident in every aspect of The Dryer.

Inspiration and Advice

Andrew's journey has been inspired by several mentors and community members who have supported his vision. His advice to new business owners is simple: "Joining the Chamber is a must. It is an investment that will return abundantly."

The Future of The Dryer

Andrew envisions The Dryer as a catalyst for change in the area, transforming an industrial zone into a vibrant tourist destination. His commitment to the community, his passion for history, and his unwavering belief in his vision make The Dryer a true gem in Katy.
