Member Spotlight: Jeremy Benson of Mann Eye Institute
Can you tell us a little about the history of your business?
We have been leaders in eyecare serving the greater Houston area and Austin since Smokey and the Bandit were in their prime. It all began in 1977.
What inspired you to start this business, and how has your vision evolved over time?
Our business is built on serving others and helping our patients "see life better". Our vision, pun intended, is to deliver a higher standard of care to those in our community in terms of Optometry and Ophthalmology. We are full-service eyecare providers who specialize in surgical treatments in addition to offering routine eye exams with glasses and contacts.
What sets your business apart from others in your industry?
We are a patient and employee-centric practice with experienced surgeons who pride themselves on operating with cutting-edge technology within our clinics and surgery centers, helping achieve predictable and exceptional outcomes. Our doctors and staff strive to provide an exceptional experience to those who trust us with their visual needs. When you walk through our doors, you are family.
How has being a member of the Chamber of Commerce benefited your business?
I have been a member of the Katy Chamber for the last decade. It has allowed me to connect with other leaders in the community and build lasting professional relationships. It has also offered exposure for our business to those in the community through networking and community events.
In what ways do you engage with the local community?
I currently utilize the chamber as a resource. We are able to gain access to health fairs to promote our business to potential patients/clients.
What advice would you give to new business owners considering joining the Chamber?
Remain consistent in your attendance at chamber events. This will allow you to build your community network quickly.
What do you believe has been the key to your business's success so far?
Provide great service and patients will come.
What challenges has your business faced, and how have you overcome them?
As the economy ebbs and flows, we are consistently monitoring our elective procedures. Even in the face of a hard economy, we provide an exceptional experience, which keeps patients returning.
Can you tell us about a product or service you're particularly proud of?
We take a holistic approach to eye care. For those seeking vision correction with glasses and contacts, we can help. Even if a patient is pursuing surgical options, we are a multispecialty ophthalmology practice. Ultimately, a one-stop shop for all your visual needs.
How do you stay ahead in a competitive market?
By focusing on our employees, patient experiences and outcomes, and remaining current on the latest technology available to the market.
What does excellent customer service mean to you?
Consistently working to improve your processes to ensure today's patient experiences are even better tomorrow.
What has been the most memorable customer interaction you’ve had?
It's amazing to see the reaction of patients who have just completed their LASIK procedure. We have had patients hugging the staff and thanking everyone on the way out. There have even been those who sit up in tears over the sight they have just received.
What’s the most rewarding part of running your business?
Developing others and improving the community's vision.
How has your business changed your life personally?
I have been given a great opportunity to grow in my career over the past 14 years with Mann Eye.
Who has been your biggest mentor or source of inspiration throughout your business journey?
Guido Piquet is a superior leader who is always looking to develop those around him.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received as a business owner?
I'm not a business owner, but I have been consistently advised to focus on providing staff with a great work environment and ensuring patients have an exceptional experience.
