Participant Program Leader and Facilities Assistant - West Campus

Summary of the Position

Reporting to the Program Participant Manager and Operations Manager, the Participant


 

Program Leader and Facilities Assistant is a member of the Operations / Participant Program Department. S/he will work closely with the Participant Program Team, executing daily schedules for the Amazing Place Participant Program, as well as performing routine and preventative maintenance and repair procedures on the facility as directed. This is a non- exempt position working Monday through Friday, 6:45 AM–3:15 PM, plus Saturdays and evenings as needed.

Position Overview

 

Works as a team with the other members of the Participant Program Department, executing daily schedules for the Amazing Place Participant Program, as well as performing routine and preventive maintenance and repair procedures for the facility as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome Participants warmly to help make transition times as easy as possible.
  • Encourage social exchange amongst the Participants and with Staff.
  • Focus positive attention on Participants who may need some redirection to successfully participate in group programs.
  • Present and/or co-present programs in front of a group of Participants, including exercise, trivia, word games, short stories, and reminiscing discussions.
  • Cue, accompany and/or assist Participants with toileting. Report observations of Participants and their needs to Amazing Place Nurse immediately following incontinence care.
  • Assist with ambulation of Participants by helping them to use their assistive devices properly.
  • Participate in scheduled Program Team meetings.
  • Serve as a Table Host during Participant lunches: serving meals, clearing tables, stimulating conversation, monitoring & redirecting Participants.
  • Set-up and assist in various group activities, both for Participant Programming and for other internal and external events. (includes tables and chairs for daily lunch service)
  • Drive Participants in the Amazing Place bus to a variety of destinations for field trips.
  • Opening duties include:
  • At 7:00AM, open entry gates
  • Check grounds and building for any issues/concerns.
  • Pick up trash/litter in parking lot and around perimeter of building.
  • Turn on building lights
  • Raise flags; lower to half-mast as directed.
  • Thoroughly water outdoor planters, and potted plants. Do not allow excess water to sit in pots/containers.
  • Blow debris/leaves off putting green and surfaces throughout the courtyard and front entry.
  • Prepare building for Bo’s Place events outside of AP regular business hours. Assist as needed for successful transition of organizational needs.
  • Make occasional trips around Greater Houston area to pick up equipment and supplies.
  • Inspect belts and tires, check fluid levels, and overall cleanliness on AP bus quarterly & report any needs to Operations Manager. Assist Operations Manager with state required annual bus inspection and license renewal.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Greet and assist outside technicians with facility repairs as requested by Operations Manager.
  • Complete facility repairs and preventive maintenance tasks as requested by Operations Manager i.e. light bulb changes, replacing faucet batteries & aerators, ceiling tile changes, clearing roof drains, carpet cleaning/stain removal, lubricating gate chains, filling sanitizer dispensers, etc.
  • Monitor restrooms for cleanliness and assist with re-stocking supplies or cleaning as needed.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers, storage areas, and emergency exit signs monthly. Notify Operations Manager of any issues.
  • Confirm items properly stored to be less than 18 inches from ceiling.
  • Confirm no equipment or stored items block access to electric panels.
  • Confirm Emergency Supply Closet is well organized, and water supply is not running low.
  • Notify Operations Manager of lights out, repairs needed, equipment and/or supply needs, irrigation leaks, or unsafe conditions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain storage room in an organized fashion and sweep floors. Discard non-working or broken furniture/equipment with Operations Manager approval.
  • Other projects as assigned from time to time.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations Required

Valid Texas Driver’s License, Maintains current CPR, AED Certification.

Possesses solid organizational skills. Understands the concept of being a team player in a work environment where employees consistently come together for the greater good. Recognizes that the unpredictable nature of working with dementia patients could occasionally involve contributing more than your share of the workload to achieve a departmental or participant outcome. Maintains a cheerful communication style, demonstrating the necessary patience to work well with persons who have mild to moderate dementia.
